Dexterity Professional Development submits courses for approval to regulatory colleges and associations across the world. Timelines vary and courses are submitted on a rolling basis. As approvals are granted, this section is updated. Remember to check back often!

Canadian approvals are updated upon receipt.

American approvals are updated upon receipt.

International approvals are updated upon receipt.

Under the CMTO’s new Quality Assurance Program (STRiVE), courses are no longer granted approval by the CMTO. It is up to the learner to demonstrate that a course is relevant to their learning goals and the STRiVE competencies. We have provided the description below to help the learner link the course to the STRiVE competencies. A course is often related to more STRiVE competencies than those listed.

The competencies below are established in the CMTO continuing education guidelines. This course addresses the competencies in many ways, including those described below.

Function in a client-centered manner.

This course prepares the manual therapist to incorporate hydrotherapy into their practice. It educates RMTs about the body’s responses to therapeutic temperature applications and guides them to apply this knowledge to assist their patients in recovery during the various stages of healing. It provides guidelines for the safe and effective use of hydrotherapy in a clinical setting, and teaches them how to identify and respond to negative reactions. The manual therapist will better understand the benefits of hydrotherapy and how to incorporate it safely and professionally into their practice.

Practice in a self-reflective manner.

This course enhances the RMT’s knowledge of the benefits and indications for hydrotherapy, and how to recognize and respond to adverse reactions. It also explores the professional and safety considerations for incorporating hydrotherapy into a clinical setting. The RMT who takes this course has reflected upon their practice and their decisions and recognizes where knowledge should be enhanced. Through taking this course, the RMT draws on external information to achieve continuous learning and quality improvement.

Maintain a safe work environment.

This course provides the manual therapist with the ability to recognize and address possible adverse reactions to hydrotherapy treatments. This understanding will allow the manual therapist to focus on maintaining the physical safety of patients throughout their treatment. The course also explores professional considerations for incorporating hydrotherapy in a clinical setting. This will prepare the manual therapist to create a positive therapist-patient relationship, including setting and maintaining professional boundaries, which work to safeguard the patient’s wellbeing.

Practice in a manner consistent with current developments in the profession.

This course was developed based on research and practice-based evidence that has been collected and documented for many years. It enriches the RMT’s understanding of the effects of hydrotherapy on the body. It prepares them to professionally and safely incorporate it into their practice. By including hydrotherapy in their practice, manual therapists can maximize their patient’s care by ensuring that the chosen modalities are appropriate for the patient and can be applied safely.
