Massage Therapy
The State of Utah has two levels of Massage Therapy Licensing:
- Massage Therapist Apprentice
- Massage Therapist
Massage Therapist Apprentice
To obtain a Massage Therapist Apprentice license, the following requirements must be met:
- The apprentice supervisor must have engaged in the practice of massage therapy for no less than 6,000 hours and be in good standing
- Successful completion of the required Board-approved curriculum
Massage Therapist License
To obtain a Massage Therapist License, the following requirements must be met:
- Successful completion of a minimum 600 hour approved massage therapy program
- Successful completion of the MBLEx national licensing exam
Licenses expire on May 31 of odd years.
Continuing Education Information
The State of Utah does not have any specific continuing education requirements for license renewal.
Massage therapists that are registered with a professional association may have additional continuing education requirements. Massage therapists should refer to their professional association for continuing education standards and requirements.
Most associations accept courses approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and/or the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Refer to your professional association for details.
