Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is governed by the South Dakota Department of Health, Board of Massage Therapy.

The State of South Dakota requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:

  1. Successful completion of minimum 500 hours approved massage therapy program
  2. Absence of unprofessional conduct
  3. Successful completion of a nationally recognized competency examination approved by the Board

A Massage Therapy License is valid until September 30 following the date issued and automatically expires unless renewed.

Continuing Education Information

Massage Therapists are required to complete 8 CE every two years for license renewal. Depending on when the license was issued, this requirement may vary for the initial renewal period. All 8 CE may be completed online.

The State of South Dakota* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of South Dakota also accepts continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.

Dexterity PD is a proud Approved Provider with the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Our courses are available and listed in the CE Registry. Course completion records are stored in the national Massage Therapy Licensing Database (MTLD) for permanent recording.
