Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is governed by the South Dakota Department of Health, Board of Massage Therapy.
The State of South Dakota requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:
- Successful completion of minimum 500 hours approved massage therapy program
- Absence of unprofessional conduct
- Successful completion of a nationally recognized competency examination approved by the Board
A Massage Therapy License is valid until September 30 following the date issued and automatically expires unless renewed.
Continuing Education Information
Massage Therapists are required to complete 8 CE every two years for license renewal. Depending on when the license was issued, this requirement may vary for the initial renewal period. All 8 CE may be completed online.
The State of South Dakota* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of South Dakota also accepts continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
