Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is governed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Massage Therapy, Professional Licensing Division of the Pennsylvania Department of State.

The State of Pennsylvania requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapist License:

  1. Successful completion of a minimum 600 hours approved massage therapy program
  2. Successful completion of the MBLEx national licensing exam
  3. Successful completion of 3 hours of approved training by the Department of Human Services on the topic of child abuse recognition and reporting
  4. Current CPR Certification
  5. Criminal History Check
  6. Letter of Good Standing

Massage Therapy Licenses expire on January 31 of every odd-numbered year.

Continuing Education Information

Massage Therapy License renewal requires the completion of 24 CE. Of the 24 CE, a minimum of 4 CE must be earned in professional ethics. A minimum of 16 CE must be earned through in-person hours. A minimum of 2 CE must be earned in child abuse recognition and reporting training, different from that used for initial licensure.

The State of Pennsylvania accepts accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
