Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is governed by the Oregon State Board of Massage Therapy.

The State of Oregon requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:

  1. Successful completion of a minimum 625 hour approved massage therapy program
  2. Successful completion of a Board approved national examination (MBLEx, NCBTMB, CESI)
  3. Successful completion of an Oregon Jurisprudence Exam

Renewal applications remain due on the 1st of the LMT’s birth month. Applicants born in odd-numbered years are required to renew their license in odd-numbered years regardless of when the license was issued. Applicants born in even-numbered years are required to renew their license in even-numbered years regardless of when the license was issued.

Continuing Education Information

Massage Therapy License renewal requires the completion of 12 CE hours. The required 12 CE hours may be supervised, unsupervised, or both until March 31, 2023. Of the 12 CE hours, 1 CE must be in Cultural Competency.

Renewal applications submitted after March 31, 2023 must complete the 25 CE hours, including a minimum of 8 CE supervised. The required 8 CE that are supervised must include at least 4 CE in Professional Ethics, Boundaries, and/or Communications.

The state of Oregon* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of Oregon also accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
