Massage Therapy is governed by the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, Board for Massage Therapy
The State of New York requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:
- Successful completion of a minimum 1000 hours approved massage therapy program
- The program must include a minimum of 150 hands-on practice
- Successful completion of the New York State Massage Therapy Examination
A Massage Therapy license is issued for life. However, those licensed must register every three years to continue in active practice.
Continuing Education Information
Massage Therapy registration renewal requires the completion of 36 CE every three-year period of renewal. Licensed massage therapists may complete all, or some, of continuing education in an online method.

Dexterity Professional Development Inc is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider and is also sponsored by NCBTMB to teach New York LMTs continuing education that is accepted by the state of New York for license renewal.
