Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is governed by the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage, a board of the Division of Professional Regulation.

The State of Missouri requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:

  1. Successful completion of a minimum 500-hours massage therapy apprenticeship with a certified mentor and successfully passed an approved examination, OR
  2. Successful completion of a minimum 500-hours approved massage therapy program;
  3. Successful completion of a national licensing exam (NCETBM, NCETM, Asian Bodywork Therapy Exam, AMMA NBCE, MBLEx, or other deemed sufficient by the board);

The State of Missouri also regulates a Provisional License (valid for 1-year only) and a Student License (valid for 6-months only) in Massage Therapy.

The Massage Therapy License is valid for two-years from its date of issuance.

Continuing Education Information

The Massage Therapy License is subject to renewal every 2 years. Within the renewal period, 12 CE hours are required.

The State of Missouri* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry.
