Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is governed by the Michigan Board of Massage Therapy, a division of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

The State of Michigan requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:

  1. As of January 10, 2020 successful completion of a minimum 625 hours approved massage therapy program
  2. Registration with the FSMTB and successful completion of the MBLEx national licensing exam
  3. Successful completion of one-time training in identifying victims of human trafficking

The initial Massage Therapy License is issued for a term of 3 years from the date of licensing. All subsequent renewals are also valid for 3 years.

Continuing Education Information

The State of Michigan requires 18 CE hours per each 3-year licensing period. Of the 18 CE, 1 CE hour must be in the area of pain and symptom management. Of the 18 CE, an additional 2 CE hours must be in the area of professional ethics and boundaries.

The State of Michigan* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of Michigan also accepts course from continuing education providers approved by the NCBTMB.

Dexterity PD is a proud Approved Provider with the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Our courses are available and listed in the CE Registry. Course completion records are stored in the national Massage Therapy Licensing Database (MTLD) for permanent recording.
