Massage Therapy
General Information
Massage Therapy is governed by the Hawaii Board of Massage Therapy. The State of Hawaii Massage Therapist License requires the following:
A license can be obtained through either:
- Apprenticeship
- The apprenticeship program shall be minimum 570 hours, of which 150 hours is academic and completed before the remaining 420 hours of practical training
- Successfully complete a CPR training program
- Course of Study
- Completion of a massage therapy program of 570+ hours which includes 420 hours of supervised practical massage training
- Successfully complete a CPR training program
- Examination
- Successfully complete a written competency examination
- Massage therapists must pass the State of Hawaii Licensure Examination.
Continuing Education Information
As of June 24, 2021, the State of Hawaii requires massage therapists to complete continuing education for license renewal commencing July 1, 2022.
Renewal of the Massage Therapist License requires 12 CE hours for each two-year term.
- Two (2) CE hours shall include first aid, CPR, or other emergency-related courses
At the time of publication of this page, the State of Hawaii had not made public the requirements for CE Providers. However, most States and Associations accept courses from Approved Providers with the NCBTMB and/or FSMTB. It is the responsibility of the therapist to confirm with the State of Hawaii Board of Massage Therapy for CE eligibility.
