Massage Therapy is governed by the Massage Therapy & Bodywork Affiliated Credentialing Board, Department of Safety and Professional Services.
The State of Wisconsin* requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:
- Successful completion of a minimum 600 hours approved massage therapy program
- Successful completion of a national licensing exam, including one of the following:
- National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM)*
- National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCETMB)*
- National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)*
- Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx)
- Successful completion of the Wisconsin Online Jurisprudence Examination
- Completed a 5 hour course in CPR and Standard First Aid. Proficiency in the use of an automated external defibrillator
- Obtain a malpractice insurance policy that covers at least $1 million per occurrence per year
*The NCETM, NCETMB, and ABT are no longer offered by their relevant organizations. The MBLEx is the only national exam currently available.
Licenses for massage therapists and bodywork therapists expire on March 1 of each odd-numbered year.
The Massage Therapy License requires the completion of 24 CE each two-year term for renewal. Of the 24 CE, at least 2 CE must be in professional ethics.
The State of Wisconsin* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of Wisconsin also accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
Dexterity PD is a proud Approved Provider with the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Our courses are available and listed in the CE Registry. Course completion records are stored in the national Massage Therapy Licensing Database (MTLD) for permanent recording.
