Massage therapy in Nova Scotia is not regulated; however, professional associations, such as the Massage Therapists' Association of Nova Scotia (MTANS) and the Massage Therapists and Wholistic Practitioners Association of the Maritimes (MTWPAM), have strict requirements for their members in keeping with the standards required in regulated provinces.

Professional associations in Nova Scotia have largely taken up the desire to regulate the profession by implementing stringent standards for their members.

To join a professional association and be eligible to bill for health insurance, a 2,200-hour training program must be completed, two letters of recommendation to the profession and proof of current Emergency First Aid CPR/AED Level A training.

Each PD Cycle spans three calendar years, beginning on January 1st of the first year and ending on December 31st of the third year
