Massage Therapy is governed by the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage, a board of the Division of Professional Regulation.
The State of Missouri* requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:
- Successful completion of a minimum 625-hour Massage Therapy apprenticeship with a certified mentor and successfully passed an approved examination, OR
- Successful completion of a minimum 625-hour approved Massage Therapy program;
- Successful completion of a national licensing exam (MBLEx, NCETBM, NCETM, ABT, AMMA NBCE, or other deemed sufficient by the board)
- Criminal background check with two sets of fingerprints.
The State of Missouri also regulates a Provisional License (valid for one year only) and a Student License (valid for six months only) in Massage Therapy.
The Massage Therapy License is valid for two years from its date of issuance. The renewal deadline is January 31, of odd years.Â
The Massage Therapy License is subject to renewal every two years. Within the renewal period, 12 CE hours are required.
The State of Missouri* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of Missouri also accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
