After considerable effort to regulate Massage Therapy as a healthcare profession in Manitoba, the Province has proceeded with the Transition Council phase of the process. It is anticipated that the profession will complete its transition to governance under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) over the next 2 years.
Professional associations, such as the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba (MTAM), have set stringent regulations for their members, keeping by the requirements for Massage Therapists in regulated provinces. 2200 hours of academic, practical and clinical education is required with a minimum grade point average of 70% from an accredited Massage Therapy program. MTAM prepares and requires its members to achieve standards in accordance with the regulated provinces. Candidates must submit to a criminal record check and have successfully completed and obtained a current CPR from a board approved organization.Â
The Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba (MTAM) requires all members to complete 24 CEUs every two-year term. A minimum of 18 CEUs must be in Primary/Core Competency activities. A maximum of six (6) CEUs from Secondary/Complementary activities
The Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba (MTAM) recognizes and approves Dexterity PD courses for the completion of continuing education requirements. The detailed breakdown of the credits awarded are included in the following tab.
The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC), which includes members in Manitoba, also approves Dexterity PD courses to complete continuing education requirements. The NHPC allots five (5) credits to any completed Dexterity PD course.
