Massage Therapy is governed by the Idaho Board of Massage Therapy.
The State of Idaho* requires the following to obtain a Massage Therapy License:
License by Examination:
- Successful completion of min. 500-hour program of in-class supervised instruction and clinical work from a board-approved Massage Therapy school or program.
- Successful completion of a national competency examination (MBLEx, NCETMB, NCETM, NCBTMB).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal record check.
License by Endorsement:
- Must hold a valid license in another state that meets or exceeds the Idaho Board of Massage Therapy licensing requirements.
- Must not have had any disciplinary actions against their license in another state.Â
- Criminal background check.
- Be of good moral character.
*Massage Therapists born in an odd year – Starting May 19, 2025, when you renew, your license will be valid for 2 years and expire on your birthday.
Massage Therapists born in an even year – 2025 licensure renewal will be valid for 1 year. Starting in 2026, you will begin a 2-year renewal cycle, and your license will expire on your birthday.
Beginning with the second renewal of their license, renewal of the license requires six (6) CE hours per one-year term. Of the six (6) CE hours, one (1) CE hour must be in ethics.
The State of Idaho* accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers in the CE Registry. The State of Idaho also accepts courses for continuing education hours from providers approved by the NCBTMB.
